Windows Type Faster And Smarter With Breevy

Breevy is a light-weight Windows-only software for expanding text abbreviations and auto correction anywhere that text can be typed.

For example, I have just typed rgds and Breevy automatically expanded it to

Regards,
Sridhar.

I have been using Breevy since January 2010 and can highly recommend it for all power users.

Over this last one year, I have curated a good number of abbreviations that I use in my daily workflow which involves typing a lot. They have been categorized under

  • General: Generic abbreviations like “brb” for “be right back”.
  • Builder: iThemes Builder WordPress theme specific abbreviations useful when editing style.css in iThemes Builder. Ex.: “.bmn” for “.builder-module-navigation “. Notice the space after at the end. That has been added because we either place a opening brace ({) or “.builder-module-element” usually after “.builder-module-navigation”
  • CSS: Abbreviations that are useful when writing CSS code. Ex.: “mr1″ for “margin-right: 1em;”

Where practical, these abbreviations get auto expanded when the last character is typed. Ex.: As soon as 1 in “mr1″ is typed, “mr1″ expands to “margin-right: 1em;”

Where this should not be the case, they are set to be triggered by a trigger key, i.e., when Ctrl key is pressed (this is the default, configurable in preferences) is pressed. Ex.: “sm” does not auto expand to “Style Manager”. Ctrl key has to be pressed after typing ‘m’. This is because we don’t want the abbreviation expanded when typing a word like ‘small’.

I am putting up all these time-saving Breevy snippets available for a small amount of $7.
