iThemes Builder Magazine Extension Modification To Show Wide Posts Above Posts Columns

There have been several requests for an enhanced iThemes Builder Magazine extension wherein a user-defined number of wide posts appear at the top and the remaining in columns at the bottom.

Before we (iThemes) release one officially, you can use my modified Magazine extension for this purpose.

Note:

  • This should be treated as unofficial with no promised support.
  • The code might not be well optimized and might have unneeded lines.
  • Wide posts will appear only on the 1st page.

  1. Hi Sridhar,

    I’m using your version of the Magazine extension on a site which I myself modified to suit my needs. The client publishes a bunch of new articles every month. In the first batch published February first, all my wide posts had featured images so the posts 4 most recent posts appeared as wide posts correctly.

    On the other hand, in the new batch of articles, some of the wide posts do not have featured images or any image whatsoever. These are now pushed down to columns posts below even if they should appear among the wide posts.

    Could you tell me what part of your code causes this behavior. What I added myself affects the columnar posts and not the wide posts. Your unmodified extension here also pushes posts without featured images that should appear in the wide posts down to the columns posts.

    The site is here so you have an idea what I’m describing.:

    Any help you can provide would be much appreciated.

    I really love working with Builder and I think your contribution is outstanding.

    Thank you!

  2. In the extension’s functions.php, comment out or delete

    ‘meta_key’ => ‘_thumbnail_id’

    I have updated the zip file (download link in the post) with this change.

  3. This is really a fantastic post. I am yet new to all this and I try to pick it all up. Reading this blog post helped me a lot in getting a line of these things. Thank you for sharing it and prolong the solid work.
